Mentoring in our School-based program:
The Mentors & Matches school-based program is expanding! We are excited to serve three Burke County elementary schools this year: Mountain Crest, Glen Alpine, Forest Hill, and Oak Hill. We need mentors to work with students for about an hour weekly during the school day. The mentor and their student will spend half of the time on academics and half on fun activities geared to social skill building. Please click on the link below for an application. Mentors can be age 16 or older for this program.
Mentoring in our Community-based program:
In this program, volunteers ages 18 and older are matched with children from single-parent families. “Bigs” schedule activities with their “Littles” at a minimum of two times each month. Activities should last between 2 and 4 hours.
This program is our most established and traditional mentoring option—it provides ample latitude for matches to engage in a variety of simple, fun activities to meet their individual interests.
Volunteers must be willing to make an initial one year commitment and must have reliable transportation as it is their responsibility to coordinate outings.
There are 17 Little Brothers and 6 Little Sisters waiting on a Big—you can start something big in your life and their’s by getting involved today.
A Volunteer Application can be sent to the Burke office. More information is under the volunteer tab at the top of the page.
