Big Sister Julie and her Little Brother Dillan have been matched since 2007, first in the after-school program at Highlands School and for the last two as a community-based match. Julie recalls that as the years went by, learning from each other and sharing their differences has brought them closer.
“I became a mentor so that I could have a positive influence on the life of a child and found that my little has had a positive influence on my life”, said Julie. “I like spending time with Dillan; he’s very bright and has a good sense of humor. Spending time with him reminds me to keep my priorities in the right place.”
Dillan is now in 8th grade and is proudly showing the great improvements he is making this year with his grades. “I like the relationship between me and Julie because I really think she wants to help me and my school work. She’s helped me get a math tutor and is always helping me with my homework. She’s fun and a nice person.”
Although Julie works full time and has a 1 year old, she tries to find time each week to spend with Dillan. “It’s all about priorities, and Dillan is special. We’re buds.”
