Run For Kids’ Sake t-shirt design contest!

Create a design for the 2012 Run for Kids’ Sake fundraiser in Buncombe County! Open to all Bigs, Littles, and the public. Use this runforkidstemplate to add your artwork on the inside of the border! Deadline is March 16. A winner will be chosen by our Advisory Council on March 20, and the winner will receive a fun prize!

Run For Kids’ Sake will be held on Saturday, June 16 on the trails at the Warren Wilson College campus. The event is open to runners and walkers. Proceeds support Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mentoring programs in Buncombe County. The race is part of the Asheville Track Club’s Grand Prix series. Join us on the trails!

National Mentoring Month at MANNA!

Matches are invited to volunteer at MANNA on Saturday, January 21 from 1:00-3:00 at MANNA Food Bank. The event honors Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his dedication to civic action and celebrates National Mentoring Month! Space limited to 12 matches. Buncombe County Holiday Party a big success!

Thanks to Charles Schwab and Company for their sponsorship of the party! And thank you to TD Bank for their sponsorship of match activities in 2011 and 2012! Both groups were terrific to volunteer at the party on December 12! Bigs and Littles enjoyed games in the gym, made beautiful beaded gifts thanks to Lyn Wells, made bottle light decorations, built handy items from wood kits, and created heartwarming cards for patients at Care Partners.

Wild Wing Cafe: Tuesday, October 25

Join us on Tuesday, October 25 between 5:00 and 9:00 for dinner at Wild Wing Cafe! The restaurant will donate 10% of sales that evening to BBBS! Littles can enjoy the Pumpkin Pageant and view decorated pumpkins entered by area schools. They can also decorate a pumpkin and wear a costume to enter the costume contest. Bigs will receive a free kid’s meal coupon toward their Little’s meal that evening.

Bigs’ Night Out at Pack’s Tavern

Tuesday, October 18 from 5:30-7:30 Bigs in all programs are invited to Pack’s Tavern in downtown Asheville (beside the Fire Department). Feel free to bring a guest (but no Littles at this event). Appetizers and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided; Bigs can purchase their own meals and other drinks if they wish. Robin Myer, Executive Director, will give an update on the organization. Connect with staff and other Bigs, and take away valuable resources to assist you in your match! Free parking below Pack’s Tavern on Marjorie Street. Free school supplies & backpacks for Littles!

Littles currently matched in the BBBS community-based program in Buncombe County can get a free filled backpack for school! Thanks to United Way for hosting the School Supply Drive and to Mission Hospital and other local businesses for donating supplies and backpacks.
Pick-up dates: Wed. Aug. 3rd between 4:00 and 6:00 or Thurs. Aug. 4th between 11:00 and 1:00. Bigs or parents can pick up.
Location: 1st floor conference room of the United Way building.

Back-to-School Kickoff Party!

Recognition Dinner for Littles!

Join us on Thursday, May 26 at 6:00 at the Asheville High School cafeteria! Bigs, Littles, and parents/ guardians are invited! We will honor Littles for their accomplishments and seniors for graduating from high school. Email Jamye at jamyed@bbbswnc.org or call 253-1470 by MAY 16 to sign up! Directions to Asheville High, use BACK entrance on Victoria Road:
Take Biltmore Avenue to Victoria Road which is between the MAHEC building and Mission Hospital. Drive .4 miles on Victoria Road; you’ll go through one stoplight. After passing Meals On Wheels on the left, turn left into the first entrance you see; it has a brown gate. (If you get to AB Tech, you have gone too far). Walk toward the arches with the reddish roof, go down the steps under the arch; the cafeteria is on the left, glass windows.
