Run/ walk our 5K on June 16!

Bigs and Littles are invited to run/ walk the Run For Kids’ Sake 5K on Saturday, June 16. The race begins at 8:30 on the Warren Wilson College campus! Littles who finish the race are entered into a drawing for a fun prize! Littles participate for free and should sign up with the BBBS office; Bigs sign up on http://www.active.com/

If you prefer not to run or walk, you can sign up to volunteer at the race. Just call 253-1470 or talk with your Match Support Coordinator to sign up to help out!

Recognition Dinner for Littles May 29!

The Recognition Dinner for Littles will be held on Tuesday, May 29 from 6:00-8:00 at the Asheville High School cafeteria. Bigs and parents – please let us know if you will attend, and let us know what improvement or achievement we should announce at the dinner. We’ll have door prizes and a photo station, so bring a camera! Dinner is provided!

Painting Party May 6!

Matches in Buncombe County are invited to enjoy painting at Wine and Design on May 6 from 2:00-4:00! Cost for Bigs is $15; cost for Littles and partial cost for Bigs is covered by a grant. Bigs – if interested, mail a check for $15 payable to BBBS (50 S. French Broad Ave. Room 213 Asheville 28801) to reserve a spot for you and your Little. Each of you will paint a canvas to keep!

Canoe Day: April 21 at Lake Julian!

Peter van Gieson with Wolf Creek Adventures is offering Canoe Day as an opportunity for Littles to try canoeing and see if they like the experience. Peter is offering River Canoeing during June and July, so this is an opportunity to gauge your Little’s interest in the sport. He will provide tandem (two person) canoes, all the necessary equipment and some instruction. Prior experience in a canoe is not necessary. Signed ACA and WCA waivers for adults and minors will be required in order to participate. We will meet near the private boat dock at Lake Julian. Stay to the right along the water as you are heading back toward the entrance to the park and look for a trailer with red, green and purple canoes. Thursday, April 5 from 6:00-8:00: Join matches for fun games and delicious ice cream at The Hop on Merrimon Avenue! Parents are invited! Big or parent buys a cone/cup and the Little’s cone/cup is free. This is spring break for the schools, so you don’t have to get home early to do homework. Bring your favorite board games and card games! Email your Match Support Coordinator to sign up.

Run For Kids’ Sake t-shirt design contest!

Create a design for the 2012 Run for Kids’ Sake fundraiser in Buncombe County! Open to all Bigs, Littles, and the public. Use this runforkidstemplate to add your artwork on the inside of the border!
