Kids On Campus 2008

Kids On Campus Program Celebrates Its 9th year!

Youth, their parents, and mentors from Warren Wilson College enjoyed a fun end-of-year dinner on May 6 at Warren Wilson College.

Each match presented a project they created together and displayed pottery, scrapbooks, and photos from their many activities. The youth are students at W.D. Williams Elementary and Owen Middle Schools. They meet with their mentor from Warren Wilson College each week for several hours on the college campus. Bigs and Littles Enjoy Field TripThe group enjoyed a field trip to the WNC Nature Center, a visit to the pottery studio on campus, boat-making and races, the popular "egg drop" activity, and many other fun outings.

THANK YOU to Aaron, Kate, and Ashley for leading Kids On Campus and to the many other caring Warren Wilson College students who participated as mentors.

Bands for Kids' Sake 2008

WOW! Talk about a successful evening for Bands for Kids Sake on April 5th at the Grey Eagle! With over 200 in attendance and performances from 10 amazing bands plus 17 new volunteers you can imagine the energy that could barely be contained.

Bands for Kids Sake's success is due in large part to the tireless efforts of Nikki Mitchell and Hunter Kalman. Their connections with Jeff and Brian from the Grey Eagle inspired these guys to donate the venue and the ticket sales (just shy of $2,000). Everyone agrees that the Grey Eagle was an ideal venue and the staff made every effort to accommodate our every need. Huge thanks to all at the Grey Eagle.

And then there were the BANDS and what an awesome night of music it was! Nikki and Hunter made those persuasive requests and 11 fantastic bands/artists made their way to the microphone. the Steves, Royal Groove, Dave Desmelik, Nevada, Dave Turner, Every Mother's Dream, Royal Slang, Gavin Conner, the Talk Show Hosts, Dave Becker and the Cheeksters turned in the tunes, rocked the house and left us all wanting more...

Thanks to those board members, council members and staff who supported this recruitment event with their time and talent. Leadership Asheville created recruitment posters and artwork that lent a very polished and professional look to this event. Board member Rob Kortus created a compelling video presentation that tells the BBBS story with passion that was used so effectively the night of BFKS.

To all those mentioned, please accept our gratitude for the difference you are making in the lives of so many children.
