Mentoring works. We see it every day. We hear it in the stories our Bigs and Littles tell us and in the research studies that we read. And you can learn about it firsthand. When you mentor, you change the life of a child and make a lasting, positive impact on your community.

From building self confidence and improving academic achievement, to having experiences they otherwise might never have, children and teens guided by caring adults are more likely to aspire higher, focus on what they’re capable of and avoid risky behaviors.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western North Carolina builds “Friendships with a Purpose” that transform the lives of both the “Little” and his or her “Big.” Dorian was a Little in the program for 12 years. His Big Brother Nathan, there for him through thick and thin, was committed to Dorian’s success. Years later, when Nathan faced immense challenges and hardship in his own life, Dorian was his most committed friend. Listen to their story here:
