In recent months, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Buncombe County has been fortunate to attract enough Big Sisters for its Community-Based Program.
But we still need Big Sisters for our School-Based and After School-based programs! The time commitment is less, and hanging out with your Little for an hour each week at their school is loads of fun!
That said, we still need Big Sisters for our Community-Based Programs, as well as the School-Based and After School-based programs, in Burke, Cherokee, Graham, Henderson, Haywood, Polk, and Swain counties, as well as Cashiers and Highlands! To learn more about being a Community-Based Big Sister in those counties, go back a page and click the Volunteer tab, then “Becoming A Big.”
School-Based
You’ll be matched with an elementary age girl for fun activities one hour each week at the child’s school throughout the school year. Activities include assisting your Little Sister with her academic assignments as well as opportunities for a variety of other relationship-building activities such as board games or arts and crafts.
After-School
You’ll offer consistency, role-modeling and encouragement for your Little Sister for one hour each week throughout the school year at her after-school program site. Activities can include assistance with homework, field games, basketball, tennis cooking, board games, music, and much more.
