The Rotary Club of Highlands recently enjoyed an informative presentation, hosted by club member Billy Love, featuring Danielle Hernandez, the Regional Program Director for Big Brothers-Big Sisters of America. Danielle began by introducing herself while also providing a bit of history about the organization and was pleasantly surprised to learn most of the Rotary members were quite knowledgeable about the Plateau chapter.
During her presentation, she highlighted the nearly 50% growth in the Plateau’s enrollment, with 112 “Littles” now in the program. But, the need for “Bigs” is still great, with a waiting list of 50 children on the Plateau. She presented data showing the success achieved vs. peers not in the program, including a 20% greater likelihood of the participants going to college and 68% improvement in academic performance.
Danielle finished her presentation with a call to action for those present—join her work as a “Big” and commit to getting a “Little” through high school.
