“The Time of My Life” – that Dirty Dancing hit song could describe the evening for supporters at BBBS Polk and Rutherford counties’ Dirty Dancing fundraiser Aug. 29 at Caitlyn Farms, Mill Spring.
Some 70 people enjoyed BBQ, refreshments, and dancing to the sounds of DJ Cool Breeze. There was even a dance performance – to “The Time of My Life” – by Dance Dynamics dancers.
John Trejo and Hurley Bell, Big Brother and High School Big of the Year respectively, spoke about the joys of being a Big. And Madi Seigfried talked about our expansion in Rutherford County, where she serves as BBBS Program Coordinator.
Jessica Toney, Program Manager of BBBS Polk Rutherford, shared the agency’s success in the two counties – from 18 active matches when she started three years ago to more than 60 matches today. Currently, there are programs in eight schools, with plans to start Group Mentoring programs at Lake Lure Classical Academy and Polk County Middle, R-S Middle, Tryon Elementary, and Polk Central Elementary schools.
“I wrapped up the evening thanking everyone and providing an amazing snapshot of the growth of our programs,” Jessica, in the orange polka dot dress, said.
