Ninth annual Have A HeART raises money for BBBS Polk

“Kayada has a kind heart: she shows concern for others, loves animals and it a good friend. She especially loves dogs and they love her too. She is also brave and likes to try new things, even when she thinks she might not like something. Kayada has a wonderful sense of humor and can make you laugh when you least expect it. She’s smart and fun to be around and we are all very lucky to have her in our community.” Elizabeth, Kayada’s Big Sister

The 9th annual Have a HeArt, a fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters Polk County, was a big success thanks to generous artists and community support. Area artists donated nearly 100 pieces for the silent auction benefit held at the Upstairs Artspace in Tryon. One of the artists, Big Sister Angel Mitchell, collaborated with her Little Sister Jada on their ceramic hearts.

Money raised funds crucial for supporting Polk BBBS mentoring programs for area youth.

Area businesses and individuals who support the project were recognized at the event and in local media. Gallery sitting, volunteering for the event, and refreshments for the opening and closing receptions were provided by Big Sisters Sue Anderson, Marie King, and Jessica Silva, Big Brother Bob Montgomery, Lynn Montgomery, Kathy Ard, Doug Dacey, Diane Samsel, Jacque Brown Williams, and Jacquie Ziller.

Also helping were BBBS Advisory Council members Sharol Ard, Lynn Costine, Carolyn Gibson, Audrey Kendrick, and Big Sister Susie Kocher (and Little Sister Malia and friends Evangeline and Charley), Lee Morgan, Jane Ollis, and Chris Tinkler. This ardent support allowed all funds generated from the event to be directed towards the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring programs in area communities and schools.
