Project MARS excels last year by serving more than 1,200 kids

Last year was a very successful year for the Project MARS/AmeriCorps team – full-time members served more than 1,200 kids. Including half-time members, the team put in more than 16,650 hours through the end of the year.

“Incredible,” Program Director Katie Snow said.

Members of the new team – Team 8, assembled in August 2022 – are having a ball with their school-based Littles. They’ve done a lot of coaching and mentoring during after-school hours, and participated in a 9/11 letter-writing campaign and a major “Make A Difference Day” cleanup in Murphy. On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, they spread mulch, planted bulbs, set posts, and picked up trash at Burton Street Peace Garden in Asheville.

Team 8 is looking forward to training and rejuvenation during its mid-year retreat in Bryson City.

“We are not quite halfway through our service year and certainly looking forward to what we will get done in 2023,” Katie said.

Recruitment for the 2023-24 service year is now open. Pass this link along to a young person who wants to have the time of their lives while helping some great kids.
