BBBSWNC board chairman Michael McNamee, pictured, was one of several people who went to Washington DC recently for Capitol Hill Day 2025, a day that united BBBS agency leaders, staff, and advocates to elevate mentorship as a national priority. Across two impactful days, attendees met with lawmakers, participated in advocacy training sessions, and engaged in discussions on the economic impact of mentorship. Notable speakers, including Representative Mark Amodei (R-NV), underscored the importance of youth mentorship and workforce readiness.
Participants advocated for legislative priorities, including the Youth Mentoring Grant, Youth Workforce Readiness Act, and RISE from Trauma Act. The event concluded with a Capitol Hill reception honoring congressional champions of mentorship, Senator Todd Young of Indiana and Senator Richard Durbin of Illinois. This year’s Capitol Hill Day reinforced Big Brothers Big Sisters’ commitment to ensuring every young person has access to strong mentorship opportunities.
BBBS is also excited to announce the launch of its new 119th Congress Federal Policy Agenda. This agenda outlines BBBS’s key legislative priorities within five themes that intersect with its organizational priorities and programmatic work. The policy priorities within each theme were chosen because they most closely align with the work and goals of Big Brothers Big Sisters. This agenda will serve as the guidepost for our federal advocacy work over the next two years.
