“Life-changing,” says a grateful mother of a newly matched son

Mom Sarah’s son, Michael waited five years to get a Big. And when he did, he found “a life mentor, a role model, and a steady, positive presence,” Sarah said. “This program changes lives,” Sarah said. And Bigs are transformed as much as their Littles. Here’s what else she said in her Facebook post.

“I am so incredibly thankful for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America of Western North Carolina!!! What an absolute blessing this program has been for our family!

“I’m especially grateful for Halee Hildebran who matched my son Michael with his Big Brother…though “Big Brother” hardly covers it. He’s truly a life mentor, a role model and a steady, positive presence. What a gift.

“A huge thank-you as well to Les. These wonderful people have been nothing but a blessing to us. Their hearts, kindness and dedication truly shine and we are so thankful for all they do!

“Michael and his Mr. Les attended the Christmas party and they had an amazing time. Smiles, laughter and memories made…what more could a mama ask for? Michael also received several Christmas presents from the people at the program. He was very thankful for these gifts! These photos capture just a small glimpse of something very special.

“… If you’re looking for a program that truly pours into children who may need a little extra guidance, encouragement, or a steady, caring presence in their life…this is such a beautiful place to start. Not only is this program incredible for kids who could benefit from a mentor, role model, or trusted friend…it is also in great need of volunteers willing to step into that Big Brother or Big Sister role!!

“There are so many children waiting, some for years!!! Michael has been waiting for a Big Brother since he was about five years old and that wait alone shows just how great the need truly is. Whether your child could benefit from being matched with a mentor or you feel called to be that mentor for a child who is waiting… this program changes lives on both sides!!! If this speaks to your heart, please reach out to Halee and learn how you can be part of something truly meaningful!!”
