Big Brothers Big Sisters Cherokee’s program at Murphy Middle School hosted a sixth-grade, small group rocket building activity recently.
Under the supervision of Program Coordinator Debra England and with the help of community benefactor John Lachance, the kids built their rockets over the course of a few weekly meetings. Each student assembled and painted their own rocket, and finally, on a sunny day in late April, they launched!
Watching the sixth-graders follow and try to find their projectile was a treat! A milkshake was promised to any Little who ran down and caught the floating parachute of their rocket, but only one was successful. Snacks were provided, and everyone had a great time while participating in this hands-on learning and sharing project.A special thank you goes out to John Lachance for providing all the rocket kits and to Bruce Peck for assisting Debra and John help the middle school students build their rockets.
