Each semester, Project MARS/AmeriCorps collects “Great Stories,” in which its members reflect on their experiences mentoring in the classroom and the progress they see students making. This month’s story comes from Chandra Bowen.
I have been with my Little since the beginning of the school year. We have worked through so many traumatic things that she has been through. During our last session, she told me that she was moving and that she would miss me and that she was sad that she wasn’t going to be able to see me again.
My heart broke because I had been with her through so much. I told her that she was going to make new friends and everything would be okay.
Although my Little is moving, I will always remember her and the relationship that we had. She truly made a impact on my life, and I am beyond thankful that I got to meet her.
