Another Great Story – Personal coaching nets student a scholarship

Project MARS/AmeriCorps collects “Great Stories” from its members in which they reflect on their experiences mentoring in the classroom and the progress they see students making. This month’s story was written by Dawson Grizzzle.

I serve at Murphy High School helping kids with their college applications, financial aid and college scholarships. Being a coach, I have also taken the liberty of helping athletes write emails to college coaches. Believe it or not, one student sent an email to a coach and the coach invited him on a visit and ended up getting him a golf scholarship. It was just crazy that just that little email helped him get a scholarship.
