Paid summer internship 2026

Through the generosity of Blue Cross Blue Shield, BBBSWNC is able to offer a paid internship this coming summer through The Nonprofit Internship Program (NPIP), supported by a collaborative of North Carolina Network of Grantmakers funders.

NPIP serves Pell grant-eligible students for whom unpaid summer internships are not feasible, which, because of the racial wealth gap in the U.S., disproportionately affects students of color. NPIP aims to expand paid opportunities for students to explore the nonprofit field and diversify the pool of young nonprofit professionals in N.C. over time.

Interns receive a stipend of $5,760.

  • Click here for more information about the program.
  • Applications are now open. Click here to apply.
  • The deadline for applications is Jan. 30, 2026.

BBBSWNC’s Community & Program Outreach Intern will assist in planning and facilitating youth activities, support office operations, staff community and recruitment events, and help raise awareness of BBBSWNC. Over the 8-week internship, they’ll be exposed to all facets of nonprofit leadership, including program coordination, outreach, and event planning.

The intern’s schedule will be flexible. For the most part they will come into the office daily unless an activity is scheduled elsewhere. BBBSWNC’s main office is in Asheville, NC.

Roles, responsibilities, needed skills and attributes for the BBBSWNC internship are listed here.

NPIP applicants are required to be Pell grant-eligible, a N.C. native/resident, and a rising sophomore, junior, or senior at an accredited four-year college or university in the U.S. (the college/university can be in or outside of N.C.). DACA and undocumented students are eligible to apply.

Applicants are not required to apply for NPIP programs in the region they call home. But they must provide their own housing and transportation.

During previous summer internships, interns have tackled issues ranging from public education to conservation and gained experience in research, digital communications, public policy and more. Participants also connect with other interns in the program and participate in ongoing professional development throughout the summer.
