D’Angelo Quarles has an exciting college career ahead of him this fall – he’ll be studying meteorology and playing basketball.
D’Angelo credits his Big Brother Bob Wiggins will helping him with the math he needed to pursue his dream of probing weather patterns.
“I’m still that kid that goes out at 4:30 in the morning recording videos, getting slapped in the face by ice pellets,” D’Angelo said. “From the viewpoint of a kid who was struggling with math … just having someone right next to you who knows what they’re doing is very helpful.
“Whenever I was having a bad day, Bob would always check on me and see if I was doing OK. It was always great to have someone like that, because a lot of people don’t have people who check on you daily, hope you’re doing good and want to see you go the distance. Always having that just kept me going.”
“I just love Big Brothers Big Sisters,” said LaVonda Quarles, D’Angelo’s mother. “I think almost every child needs that.”
