“This experience has allowed me to be there for someone in the way I wish I would’ve had when I was younger.” – Jayda Cadle, East Burke grad and BBBS High School Big
Today we celebrate our first batch of BBBS graduates! Here are the plans of all these accomplished seniors.
Noah Ramsey, graduating from East Burke HS, plans to attend NC State University and major in environmental science. “I’ve loved being a Big Brother for two years and am so happy with the connections I’ve made with my Little. I’m really going to miss him, but I know he’s going to be just fine.”
Caroline Cox, graduating from East Burke HS, plans to attend East Carolina University to study biology to become a dentist.
“Our High School Bigs mean the world to their Littles. They are mentors, role models, and steady encouragement. They help their Littles feel seen, supported, and inspired. And in giving their time and heart, our Bigs are enriched too, gaining perspective, purpose, and the joy that comes from making a real difference.” – BBBS Polk Program Assistant Louise Johnson
Hermione Garro, graduating from East Burke HS, is headed for Lenoir Rhyne University to study sports management and exercise science to become either a sports/recreation programmer or an athletic director.
“Being a mentor in BBBS has been such a rewarding experience,” Hermione said. “I’ve had a lot of fun hanging out with my Little, watching her grow and gain confidence. As I get closer to the end of my senior year, it has become a little harder to see her as often because of exams and all the senior events going on. Even with my busy schedule, I still try my best to spend time with her whenever I can because being a mentor has meant a lot to me.”
Jayda Cadle, graduating from East Burke HS, plans to attend Lenoir-Rhyne University to pursue a degree in nursing.
“I’ve loved seeing my Little’s smile every time I show up,” Jayda said. “One of my favorite things is getting to listen to all of her funny stories and crazy little thoughts. She has such a big imagination and always knows how to make me laugh. I feel so blessed for the bond we’ve created and for having had this opportunity.”
Taylor Holder, graduating early from Draughn High School, plans to attend Catawba Valley Community College (and play basketball) before transferring to UNC Charlotte to pursue a degree in elementary education.
“I have been able to grow a connection with my Little that I am grateful for,” Taylor said. “It has helped me be able to be involved in a school environment to better my future as a teacher.”
