AmeriCorps engages 270,000 Americans each year in sustained, results-driven service through our AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps Seniors programs. These dedicated citizens do so many things – they help communities impacted by COVID-19, ensure students stay on track to graduate, combat hunger and homelessness, respond to natural disasters, fight the opioid epidemic, help seniors live independently, support veterans and military families, and much more.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of WNC is proud to be the host organization of the AmeriCorps program Project MARS (Mentoring, Academic Assistance and Resources for Success). Each year, 60 volunteers commit to a year of service, serving the children of WNC as school engagement coordinators. We are grateful for these volunteers, who have answered the call to serve. They raised their hands, stood up and show up each and every day, lifting the lives of others.
In the face of the pandemic, our members have continued to step up in incredible ways. Providing virtual mentoring, tutoring and classroom assistance, meal delivery to children, volunteering at food banks, resource coordination and health service connections, our AmeriCorps volunteers continue to serve our communities.
This AmeriCorps Week (March 7-13) join with us as we celebrate our Project MARS/AmeriCorps volunteers and their positive impact in the communities served, humbly offering our gratitude to each and every one for volunteering to serve others.
