As AmeriCorps has been promoting for 25 years, Project MARS/AmeriCorps made it a “day on,” not a “day off,” on Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2021. Under normal circumstances, our team would come together and provide service. Due to COVID-19, Project MARS members led various activities across WNC, instead of the team coming too.
Once again, this team of AmeriCorps stepped up, and found ways to provide service in their communities. Members served with Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry, MANNA FoodBank, led student council trash clean-ups, provided age-appropriate lessons on the teachings of Dr. King with grades K-8, held Parent Involvement Information sessions, wrote letters to nursing home residents and wrote notes to MANNA for the food donations at their schools.
Project MARS/AmeriCorps is currently serving in Buncombe, Haywood, Graham and Cherokee counties. Please think about joining us for our next community service project. For information, please contact Katie Snow at katies@bbbswnc.org.
