Walking through a meadow full of butterflies and flowers was a great way for our matches in the Macon, Jackson, and Qualla Boundary area to spend a recent afternoon.
Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust has been preserving McKinney Meadow, two acres of wildflowers and pollinators in downtown Cashiers, by clearing out invasive plants. One of its guides explained to our Littles the role each plant plays in the local ecosystem. We provided the fresh lemonade and wrapped up the afternoon by journaling in the meadow.
“It was a great, hands-on way for the kids to connect the dots between the plants and the wildlife around them,” said Program Coordinator Brandon Fouts.
