Last Friday, Big Brothers Big Sisters partnered with the Asheville Brewer’s Alliance in the first ever Big Brewery Bowl Off! Many thanks to the breweries who participated!
With five ABA teams registering—including two from Green Man Brewing, Hi-Wire, Bhramari and The Wedge Brewery, and the amazingly entertaining local comedian Drew McDermott MC’ing—we had a blast, and raised money to support local kids getting the support of a caring mentor!
Some of the highlights included Green Man’s custom-designed, authentic bowling shirts, with a pirate-adorned Green Man logo (eye patch, knife in the teeth and all!) pictured on the back, two custom-crafted trophies made by Betsy Puckett and the friendly yet competitive vibe that bubbled throughout the evening.
“It’s a really big part of craft beer culture to give back to our communities wherever our communities are,” said Kendra Penland, president of the Asheville Brewer’s Alliance, “There’s not a week or even a day where there’s not a brewery doing some kind of fundraiser or work to support a nonprofit. So the ABA tries to help support our membership as well as our community by putting together larger strategic partnerships where we can bring together lots of our breweries, support events like this, and great causes like this, and we were really excited to be a part of it and support all of the great work that Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western North Carolina does.”
Representatives from the participating breweries said that this event gave them an opportunity to get together as a team and do something meaningful and fun together outside of the workplace.
“[I]t’s especially good for us to do something like this where we’re leaving work aside and coming together to have fun and make a positive impact,” said Matt Peyton, sales and distribution manager of Green Man.
Not only did we have a blast, but the teams raised $1500 for Big Brothers Big Sisters!
