Big Brothers Big Sisters has been serving young people in Western North Carolina since 1982. We currently cover eight counties.
We match children (ages 6-14) from single-parent families with caring, adult mentors.
“Bigs” and “Littles” spend time together forming a friendship. In our traditional program, they participate in activities in our community like hiking on the parkway, playing ball, or baking cookies. In our site-based program, Bigs and Littles see each other at the child’s school or recreation center. They spend time playing games, completing homework, and having lunch together.
Here’s what our Littles have to say about their Bigs:
- “When I’m with him, I try to be like him.”
- “When I need her I can always count on her.”
- “He always finds a way to make you laugh when you are down.”
- “I have a feeling we will be very good friends forever.”
Our Mission: Mentoring Works–transforming the lives of children and volunteers.
