Project MARS/AmeriCorps members will serve as School Engagement Coordinators in Western North Carolina.
Great news—It’s that time of year! Project MARS/ AmeriCorps of Big Brothers Big Sisters WNC is now recruiting for full time positions in Haywood, Swain, Henderson, Graham and Transylvania Counties!
AmeriCorps members will be responsible for recruiting, training, matching and guiding mentors; providing one on one and small group academic assistance to elementary through high school aged youth; and providing resource development (recruit, train and manage volunteers and match resources: food, clothing, school supplies, and services).
Members serve children directly within the schools’ day to day; providing mentoring, academic assistance and resources for success. This will take place throughout the school day as well at afterschool programming. Members will collaborate with teachers, staff and administration to identify children that would most benefit from mentorship and other services and then recruit community volunteers to aid in providing said services.
Our goal as a program, is to both serve the children as well as provide professional development and experience for our members. Our AmeriCorps members help mitigate some of the negative impacts of poverty.
Project MARS/AmeriCorps members gain skills valued by future employers through trainings, supervision and guidance.
Living Allowance, Health Insurance Stipend, Education Award and loan forbearance available. Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree.
