Headed to college with social service in mind – and a great Big Sister

Jasmine Brown and Big Sister Dana Schiffman, many years ago.

College-bound, Jasmine Brown hopes to be a Big Sister herself one day.

Matched with Big Sister Dana Schiffman several years ago, Jasmine plans to study to become a therapist/counselor “to help others just like me get through life through all the tough times,” she said. “I wanna be a Big Sister to someday help someone, just like Dana helped me.”

Through the meals, crafts, and adventures they shared, Dana “taught me a lot about growing up,” Jasmine said.

“BBBS has meant so much to me, knowing that if I needed someone to talk to besides my mom, then I had her. Dana always had my back. She gave me advice through all the rough times and told me straight forward what I was doing wrong and how to fix it to become a better person.

“Even when I was in a bad mood or feeling down, she made me smile. We always had the best times together. I truly hope we stay in contact, and I love her. I’m glad I was introduced to this program, and I hope it helps everyone else as much as it helped me.”
