Little Sister Keenysia throws Opening Day first pitch at new Harry Dallara Baseball Field

Keenysia and Big Sister Becky

Little Sister Keenysia threw out the first pitch during Opening Day, Sept. 5 at the brand-new Harry Dallara Baseball Field in Tryon.

The grand opening celebration included a field dedication, a Little League game, and speeches from several dignitaries. It also included recognition of the Tryon All-Stars, a Negro League team that played during the 1940s. Jimmy Young was a player with the All-Stars, and three of his great-nieces – sisters Jakariah, Keenysia, and Chantella – played in the day’s Little League game to commemorate the occasion.

Jakariah and Keenysia are Little Sisters in Polk County, and they gave their all during the 11-11 tie game, which was watched by Keenysia’s Big Sister, Becky. The teams were coached by Tryon’s own Joel Booker, a minor league player for the Chicago White Sox.

The Young family really embraced this community celebration. Their enthusiastic participation helped make the event a lot of fun for the kids. The family will receive two donated Ingle’s gift certificates, one for each Little, for the tremendous energy and enthusiasm they brought to this event.
