Rachel Miller
Rachel became a Big Sister through the AmeriCorps Mars program, where she was matched with her Little Sister, Amiya. From the moment Rachel became Amiya’s big, she has gone above and beyond to support her. Rachel made it her mission to know not only how Amiya was performing in school, but also how Amiya was growing in her social emotional skills. Because of her busy AmeriCorps schedule, Rachel took the initiative to modify when she and Amiya would meet. She went to Amiya’s soccer games and supported Amiya in all of her extracurricular activities.
Although Rachel is no longer with AmeriCorps, she is still just as dedicated to Amiya. They met virtually throughout the Spring to ensure that Amiya had another adult in her corner as she worked through virtual school for the first time. Rachel also uses her relationships with teachers at Amiya’s school to ensure that she knows what areas of growth to focus on when it’s time for tutoring. Rachel is an incredible Big and we are so lucky that she and Amiya are building their relationship further in their second year!
